Fewer people are buying more printed books.

After 16 months of the Corona pandemic, this year’s figures from the book trade Association Börsenverein were awaited with particular excitement.

Surprisingly, sales in the industry in 2020 grew compared to the previous year, by a 0.1 percent: still, a remarkable figure.

The second good news: the number of around 5,000 bookstores across Germany has so far remained stable despite the change in customer behavior.

The number of book buyers in Germany as a whole continues to decline. In 2013, was still 36.5 million people. In 2020, the number has arrived at 28.4 million. In concrete terms, this means that fewer and fewer people are buying more and more printed books.
